Buying in Torrance

Torrance in East Dunbartonshire is an affluent village of roughly 2,375 residents. It sits about 3 miles west of Kirkintilloch, about 4 miles northwest of Lenzie, and just under 3 miles north of Bishopbriggs. It is also just over 9 miles north of Glasgow. The village settlement grew as a staging post on the route south from the one-time main crossing of the Campsie Fells. Weaving, limestone, mining, and ironstone were important trades in the 19th century until these industries declined.

Torrance as we know it today is a desirable commuter settlement that saw more significant expansion with building of houses in the 20th century. It is a popular settlement for its somewhat countryside and away-from-things feeling, but not being too far away from larger towns nearby like, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Bishopbriggs, Bearsden, and even Glasgow city centre. The proximity to Glasgow makes it a popular settlement of choice for young families seeking a nice place to raise their children while still being close to other main settlements and of course their places of work.

In terms of transport links then, by road Torrance is well connected with the A803 trunk road through Bishopbriggs found just outside the town via Torrance Road. There are several local bus services but no active railway line, the closest stations are in Lenzie and Bishopbriggs. This makes residents particularly reliant on car transport. However, being a fairly affluent village, most residents do own their own cars for commuting onwards to Glasgow, Bishopbriggs, as well as the other nearby settlements.

As for amenities and things to do, there’s not too much to be found in Torrance beyond the usual small and independent stores you’d find in a village of this size. Instead, residents would typically travel to the larger nearby settlements for shopping and groceries, or into central Glasgow.

In terms of local schooling for children, the only school in the village is Torrance Primary School. When pupils reach secondary school age, they would travel to St. Ninians’s High School in Kirkintilloch, Lenzie Academy in Lenzie, and some to Turnbull High or Bishopbriggs High in Bishopbriggs.

In January 2024, property in Torrance stood at an average value of £313,772. Over the last 12 months, different property types have had different average prices. Detached properties sold for £432,128, semi-detached for £192,324, terraced for £215,107, and flats for £134,911.
