The town had an adjoining Royal Air Force base, RAF Leuchars, which was established in 1920, and was home to the Eurofighter Typhoon. In 2015, the RAF base became an Army base, as the regimental headquarters of 2 Close Support Battalion REME and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards after 20 years in Germany.

Leuchars is well-connected through various transport links. The Leuchars railway station is a key hub on the Edinburgh to Aberdeen line, offering frequent services to Edinburgh (around an hour), Dundee (15 minutes), Aberdeen (1 hour and 20 minutes), and direct trains to London King’s Cross (5 hours and 30 minutes).
